Some of ya know I'd been out of the hobby for like two decades and for some reason, Vix got me re-ingaged back in Feb. Well, one of my first deals was a swap with Vix for a book in exchange for 3 angels. One I named Spike. A big ol orange/koi marble. He'd done his manly duty for Vix while she was a Virginia resident. Fast forward.
A month or so ago he and a silver picked a big java fern leaf to do their duty... One night into the incubation period I left the lights out at night... yep.. all gone the next day... This time (Saturday) they decided to use the intake tube on a big ol HOB. Sunday.. nothing.. 3 or 4 white eggs... Monday.. nothing.. no more white eggs... Run out for supplies (beer) and post on another forum about angels and duration etc... Go to check on the eggs.. DAMNIT.. they are all gone... Wait a minute.. Spike (m) and the wifey are holding in another area!.. Holding over 100+ of wigglers!... 5 hours later that clutch looks like something you'd see in a salt setup atop some corals.. thriving mass of "things"... Hey.. if I sound like a "kid let loose in a candy store", remember it's been over two decades since I've had a spawn!
You'll see the relocated fry above momma's head atop the end of that branch. Bill in Va.
p.s. Momma has now been named Sarah... after the way she protects the fry, she reminds me of a momma Grizzly..

You'll note over 1/2 of the tank is vacant after Spike did his sentry duties. He's heading back to momma and fry. Bill in Va.

Day 5 of hatch... the fry are free-swimming!.. at least some of them.... Can't even begin to count the numbers at this time... It's so neat to see momma chasing them around... collecting them in her mouth... 3 or 4 per sentry effort, migrate back to the brood holding site and spit them out one by one...!.... These little critters could swim thru the eye of a needle almost!...Can ya tell this is my 1st spawn in over 20 some years!... This old man is acting like a lil kid on Christmas morning... Bill

Congrats! I knew I gave Spike to someone who would love him as much as I did. He is a stud and Momma sounds like a keeper.

Get a 5g tank set up with a sponge filter to move 1/2 the fry to, fill it with water from the parents tank and set the temp at along the same too. That way if one of them turn on the fry you will still have some. First bites is a good early fry food and so is decapped brine eggs.
    cheers congrats cheers

Can't set up another tank until tonight but here are the fry.

These very bad photos are taken from the back of the tank. You'll see the koi/marble papa in one of the pics. I guess about 60 fry. The lights have been on over this tank for a solid week which has caused a bit of algae growth on the back pane. Great first food for the critters!.. Bill

They need protein also so first bites is best with the least hassle and only a couple of bucks.

Update...while working out in the yard... I guess I passed the limit on my circuit... blew a breaker.. don't know how long it was black in there but I suspect in a panic, 1/2 the fry were consumed. Have pulled about 3 doz fry.. maybe 2 dozen left in the tank... Bill in Va.

Laughing that happens sometimes! Laughing Blown mine a few times!
DO NOT get discouraged if this batch doesn't make it, it takes a while to get the hang of raising angel fry but it is very very rewarding to watch them get their angel body shapes!!!!!
