Re: My hap ruby greens
I have a bunch of fry now but they are all spoken for.
I had a bit of a contamination issue and had to let a bunch of fry get eaten. I will take care of the contaminant today and then I will resume saving fry.
I have 2 blood lines in there, my big girl Sybil I have had for quite some time, she is a massive 4" and averages about 80 fry per holding, she is also at least 4 years old. The rest of them are from the same family, so I tend to keep Sybil's fry so that there is a nice clean gene mix.
They are great fish an optimum breeding colony is 2 males and 4-6 females. If you only have one male he wont color up very much. Victorian fish are funny like that and only the most dominant male will be full color and the sub dom will be half colored. Its best not to mix Victorians, hybridization happens easily between most of them. With most of the vics being extinct or very threatened in the lake this is something to be avoided at all cost. They mix well with peacocks and some other mild mannered cichlids of different lakes. When I first got a male for Sybil I used tiger barb's as dither fish with great success!
