Re: 240 reseal project
You do overdo everything
I just razor blade it off and hit it with either acetone or denatured alcohol and run some silicone and call it done But I dont care what it looks like either

Funny thing on those old tanks that plastic is 4 pieces that are there just for keeping the edges of the glass from getting chipped up. On the top 4 pieces as well, but they have the lip that holds the hinged glass tops.

Re: 240 reseal project
Yes, I use both inside too. First the soft scrub, then light rinse and dry, then acetone to remove everythiing else. I know "NEVER USE CLEANERS INSIDE A TANK" but in this case the cleaners are less harmful than the old silicone. I have more pics to post that show the deposits that built up in and under the silicone. When that happens it's time to strip and start over because you never know what or how long the stuff will leach into your water.zeketaz wrote:Nice tank. I like soft scrub because it is a base and helps neutralize any acidic buildup from animal urine. The tank wa used for turtles and who knows what else.

Re: 240 reseal project
72 x 24 x 31 x .00433= 231.94<---That is an odd size but you know the manufacturers round the numbers. Sadly tanks are sold by the base they sit on, the base to my current 240 which is actually a 220 says 180/240 inside the base. So if the tank fits people just say it's 180 or 240.Fern wrote:That's an odd size.....
You don't want to get me started about tank measurments, it makes me mad. NOBODY has the tank they think they have because tanks are sold by outside measurements.
Same tank as above subtract the glass thickness and the offset for the bottom glass and you have about 200 gallons of water "inside" the tank.
