I have been making my own frozen food for my salt tanks for many years now. The fish seem to love it and thrive on it. The recipe is: 1- 1 lb bag of frozen seafood mix (squid, octopus, mussels, shrimp), 1 1 lb bag of shrimp without shells or tails, 3-4 quohog clams, a large penshell from the gulf (when no red tide is present), a few fistfulls of fresh spinach and an occasional oyster. Grind it all up in a food processor and put it in flat freezer bags. The corals feed on the tiny particles, the fish on the medium and the serpent stars and other detritivores on the larger pieces. None goes to waste.

Penshells are the large black bivalves burried halfway in the same in the estuary off the causeway and in the gulf. Like a giant mussell. They are not needed for the recipe. Actually make it cloud water more than without it. I use it in my reef. The corals filter it out as they feed.
