I know some people often wonder who the great sellers are and who to run from. I myself are one of those people lol. So please if you have bought from a seller on aquabid and know they are good to buy from let us know. Also if there are sellers to steer clear from would be helpful as well.

The only person I have ever had anything shipped from was Shay and she was great to deal with. The fish were excellent as well.

There are a lot of bad buyers but few bad sellers on Aquabid. They have a forum called aquachat and there is a feedback section so you can check that for any new updates on buyer beware type posts. If there is a bad seller they don't last but a week or two because people talk and the feedback from buyers posts right to the sellers ratings.
I'm a seller on the site and as of this post have a 49/49 rating for what that is worth.

Sorry about the multi posts but I hope the info is good.
Local shop (walk in type) that is by far the best for hard to find parts and accessories would be Boardroom Aquatics. You would be hard pressed to find a nicer guy than the owner. I have both bought from and sold to the shop and every transaction has been perfect. I needed a flapper for an older style whisper air pump and they had it in stock (see if that happens at one of the big box stores)
My comments here are from personal experience and have nothing to do with Fern's relationship with the shop.

I fully agree, I only ended up working there because I was in there so much rooting through the bone yard of used stuff my first job there was to dig, test and scrap out parts from the busted stuff
I have a 4/4 rating on aquabid but so far I have only been a buyer.

Aquabid sellers
I've forgotten how many years I've been on Aquabid (mostly buying) w/ a feedback rating of 65/65. For the most part, the sellers have been trustworthy. The past month though I've come across one (Moonrose2164 aka Melody Sherman from PA) who'd ripped me and another buyer off (sent payment, no items, no refund) and as of the past week, it looks like she's still "selling" and performed yet another Breach of Sale with yet another buyer. *shaking head* The feedback system for the most part works but it takes 4 filed complaints before Aquabid will investigate.

I don't even rate anymore because if you leave a bad review you get one back. I look though just in a case like yours. The rating system isn't always far you have to read the comments.

The only one I would warn to stay away from on aquabid for Discus is petzonesandiego. That have possibly the worst looking Discus I have seen anywhere. Not all the pictures show it but in many you can see the football shape and large eyes. I would be very weary about Discus from them. Now other fish might be fine.. at least ones that require less care.

plus they use stock photos and not the photos of the actual fish.

Ya know the funny thing is that often the stock photos would show a persons best stock haha... I know that before I buy online I often would search around for a dealers post or reviews on other sites. Many forums specialize in Discus, Cichlids, Brackish water ect and you can find reviews from people on that site that have bit the bullet and ordered from some random aqua sellers.
I guess I am always suspicious buying from others and I know many times it is not intentional that their stock is poor (people always like their own stuff...) but unless they can send me pictures of the fish I will be getting and in some cases pictures of the parents I will just walk away.

I never bought from aquabid.
I have had good experience with RiverWonders (out in CA) and AmazonTropicals (PA). 99% of my fish I bought on the spot - and 90% of those came from LFs's as trade-ins - overall, a very expensive strategy. Gotta learn new ways.

Arapaima... wanna say gigas but the genus is being revised - taxonomists are pretty sure there are many species. But until that, gigas. About half-grown... well, only if one relies on the champion size data but far most of them do not exceed 10 feet.

Only reason I knew what it was when I saw it is because I just watched a repeat of River Monsters this past week. They pack a terrible headbutt when jumping out the water.
