Re: Vampire shrimp
Glad you are enjoying the new crawler. Just and FYI some of them turn blue like crays, also the little black balls it drops are turds not eggs, lol. I had two in a fry saver and the next morning I thought one had dropped about 100 eggs. I cleaned it out and two days later aother 100 little pellets.

Ya I have noticed the pile growing in his cave, I need to clean in out soon lol. Seems like the newborn plecos enjoy hanging in his cave though, theres usually 4-5 in there with him!

Re: Vampire shrimp
We've had our 3 vampire shrimp (seller DeepakJacobi on Aquabid... highly recommended... very professional)for a couple of weeks now and we love them! Huge buggers and they look intimidating but they're absolutely peaceful. They've molted twice already and changed colors from bright baby blue to greyish white. Doesn't mean they can't hold their own though ... if say a molly gets too close, they'll poke it away. Even the molts look impressive... wish I could save those, too LOL! One question... do I need to be adding calcium to the tank for their shells or what? It's a long established 35 gal.

Re: Vampire shrimp
I keep a little crushed coral in all my tanks as a natural buffer, I would recommend you do that or throw in a few sea shells.
Ya he was cool a stray xmas fulu was in that tank and I think he got the shrimp so I fed the fulu to Fred

Re: Vampire shrimp
Yes, They are filter feeders and won't bother the fish at all. I still have a bunch at $10 each maybe Zeke can pick one out for you at the get together.ZekesMom wrote:way cool!!!!can i put one in with my angels, babies and glowlights? i have waaayyyyy to many snails
Just an FYI they don't eat snails, get a clown loach or tiger loach to do that for you and when they get too big for your tank trade them in for something else.

Re: Vampire shrimp
We have assassin snails just let fern know we can give you a couple. They will eat the other snails.

I'm not much of a snail person so excuse me if this is a stupid question. If you get assin snails to eat your other snails aren't you just trading one snail for another? Also what happens when the assins run out of other snails to eat?

Re: Vampire shrimp
Assassin snail multiple very slowly. They will only populate according to how many snails in the tank. Much cheaper and easier than getting a fish that will grow to large for your tank and try to get rid of him.

Re: Vampire shrimp
Logic would state that they would start feeding on each other when the other snails run out, that what they seem to be doing in one of my tanks, so following that logic you would just end up with 1 snail...
