    Making fish food

Post by Fern on Thu Jun 09, 2011 10:17 am

Made up about 15-20 pounds of fish food last night. Did 2 batches, one for African cichlids, more veggi less protein, and one for American cichlids like discus and angels, more protein and less veggi.
If you are married this is a project better done when your spouse is away and use your own food processor. I can never do it without making an absolute mess!!!!!!!!

    zucchini
    yellow squash
    garlic
    spirulina
    tilapia
    shell on raw shrimp
    spinach
    peas
    beef heart
    melon
    carrots
    vitamin C
    Naturose (natural red enhancer)

I think that's all that went into it.... Oh wait, and a sliver of my thumb.... I sliced it wide open on the blades tongue
For the angels and discus they got more protine and less veggi, they got the beef heart as well
For the africans they only got a little shrimp and a little tilapia in their food and mostly veggi, and absolutely no beef heart! too much protein in Africans will give them bloat

She forgot she added beets also. LOL Oh and BTW if you add thumb be sure it's not in the african food too much protein.

The smell is fine by me, just veggi and fishy smell for the most part!
But its always best to not irritate the spouse by making this with them home... usually doesn't go over very well.....

You have a fish buddy with you so you can go hysterical when the mess looks overwhelming. LOL (and to help chop up the beef heart)
